Week 2: Photoshop

For the last couple of weeks, we've been working with Photoshop.  Since I got sick, I fell a little behind during the whole process.  I didn't really have any sort of experience working with Photoshop before, so that made working on this project a little difficult.  Luckily, I came and got some individual help, so that I could get the project done on time.  I learned the basics of how to edit photos and make them look like they belong in the overall picture.  I learned how to upload pictures into Photoshop and erase backgrounds.  Overall, I feel like this was a useful lesson for me because I will now know how to help my students if/when they need to use Photoshop.

Week 1: go2web20

When I went on to go2web20.net, i looked at the "E-Learning" tab to see if there was anything that might be of use to me in my future classroom.  One of the things that I saw immediately was PlanbookEDU.  I looked around the website and watched the tutorial; it looked like it would be incredibly useful in keeping lesson plans organized and accessible.  The free version wasn't the best, but if you were willing to pay the $25 per year, you could have all of the benefits of this program.  I thought it was really cool that you can share your lesson plans through it.  This means that substitutes would be able to access whatever I had planned for the day, and my class would not fall behind.  Overall, this looked like it would be extremely useful in a classroom.

Also on the "E-Learning" tab, I found GameClassroom. This is a site that was created by professionals to help students learn how to do math and language arts through fun games.  I think that the target audience is children, obviously, but also their parents.  Parents like when their children are learning, so this could be a way to give their kids some time on the computer, but also have them practice necessary skills.  I think this could be useful in a classroom setting that has technology because the students could practice skills they are already learning in class, but possibly in a more fun format.  I thought that overall it was a really nice site and there weren't really many problems with it.  I would definitely use this in my classroom.

Next, I looked at PowToon.  I figured that this could be useful for both teachers and older students.  Teachers could use it to make their presentations more fun and exciting for their students to look at and participate in.  Older students could also use it to make presentations fun and interesting whenever they are asked to create some sort of visual presentation for class.  For basic use, it is free, but you are able to join the site for a fee and get more use out of the site.  I think it is a pretty cool site to use for presentations, and it is definitely directed toward teachers and students.

The last site that I looked at was GradeBook (LearnBoost).  This site turned out to be much more than I thought it was going to be.  I thought that it would just be a site for keeping track of student grades, but it can actually keep track of lesson plans, integrate Common Core standards into those lesson plans, keep track of student attendance, and give parents access to the class calendar/their child's grades/ their child's attendance in class.  I think that those features are incredibly cool and useful.  Overall, I think that this site would be amazing in a classroom.  It is geared towards classroom teachers.  I didn't find anything wrong with the site since it had so many amazing features.  I would definitely use this in my classroom!

Throughout this exploration of sites, I found some that could be extremely useful in my own classroom someday! This was a very useful and insightful assignment.
